Seeing The Netherlands on one tank of gas.

  • What’s really amazing about the windmills at Kinderdijk is that they are still completely functional. This one was built in the middle of the 18th century and it’s still in operation to this day. The engineer in me is even more impressed than the photographer. The other cool thing, at least I think, is that there is a family living in this windmill. How awesome is that? November 2017.

  • It's impossible to take a bad picture here. Show up at sunrise and click away. The Netherlands. Kinderdijk, The Netherlands. November 2017.

  • At the end of another work trip, I spent one day and one tank of gas doing my best to see all of The Netherlands. Obviously, it was impossible to see the entire country in that short of time but I did my best. First stop was to see the famous windmills at Kinderdijk (the windmills are off camera to the left). The sunrise here was amazing. The morning mist made these fields and canals look like a small lake. Kinderdijk, The Netherlands. November 2017.

  • I let the sun come up a bit and burn off some of the morning mist. This was one of those moments where I was conflicted between simply enjoying the moment and doing my best to capture it. November 2017.

  • While walking around Kinderdijk there were a couple of guys diving in the canals looking for old WWII ordnance. As an American, I forget sometimes the effects of WWII are still being felt generations later. The two divers thought it weird I was so interested in what they were doing, considering it's just a normal day in the office for them. Kinderdijk, The Netherlands. November 2017.
